MarketingProfs. Know-how exchange. Web Analytics
November 9, 2005

Public forum where the following question was introduced "I work for an online publisher and we are investigating a new stats tool for our site. We have used Live Stats in the past, but have found it to be very unstable. Currently our top 2 choices are Webtrends and Urchin. Obviously both have their advantages and disadvantages, but I was just wondering if anyone has a first hand experience with either tool or any feedback (positive or negative). As we do not sell anything on our site, the main purposes of the tool will be to accurate track readers, their geographic locations, site referrals, search engine referrals, keywords, etc. etc." You can find there 6 answer with different point of view. Advice on Web Analytics Choice
Public Forum, from June 23, 2005 to July 18, 2005

The forum debate started with the following post: "We are a large dynamic consumer site with over 40 different country versions and we are looking for a web analytics solution. We are willing to pay for a high end solution because we believe the ROI will work. However we want to make sure we go with a major player so we don't invest in software that becomes obsolete. Has anyone else had experience deciding between the big vendors (WebTrends, Coremetrics, Omniture and WSS)? How do you think their features and customer support compare? Who do you think will be the industry leader? Link: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum39/3448.htm

ProSoundWeb. Urchin Web Analysis Review. Urchin V4. Versus WebTrends
November, 2003

Those of you who are long acquainted with ProSoundWeb.com and its subsidiary sites Live-Audio.com, recpit.prosoundweb.com, and links.prosoundweb.com may know that we average over 180,000 unique visitors turning over 3.5 million pages each month. This traffic generates multiple web logs on multiple servers which quickly reach 2 gigabytes in size. For over two years, we used WebTrends Reporting Server to crunch our logs to generate detailed reports of site activity, but our logs were getting so large that the otherwise excellent WebTrends software sometimes required several hours simply for processing. So we decided to look for an alternative log analysis program which would churn our logs much more quickly, and, with luck, offer other improvements in the bargain. That program turned out to be Urchin 4. Link: http://www.prosoundweb.com/industrybiz/urchin.php

What's in Your IIS logs?
February, 2002

Most organizations will want to keep an eye on the trends in their Web server's usage. IIS excels at collecting the raw data for trend analysis: If you turn on IIS logging, it will save everything from the pages that were requested to the referring URLs to the IP addresses of the browsers that were used to access your Web site. The problem with this approach is that the raw log files have too much data for human beings to understand. An active web site can quickly pile up hundreds of megabytes or even gigabytes of logging information. How do you extract useful information from all that data? The answer is to use a log-file analysis program. To carry out this task, I took a look at WebTrends Analysis Suite. Link: http://mcpmag.com/reviews/products/article.asp?EditorialsID=229
