June 5, 2006
"PORTLAND,
Ore - June 5, 2006 - WebTrends Inc., the market leader for web analytics
and Marketing Performance Management solutions, today announced that
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) has chosen WebTrends® On Demand as its
web analytics solution. Between May and December of 2005 Microsoft.com
launched a search for a third-party web analytics solution, evaluating
a number of vendors to replace a variety of solutions in use throughout

would offer enhanced reporting functionality and consistent metrics
across functional groups within Microsoft." Link: www.webtrends.com/AboutWebTrends/NewsRoom/NewsRoomArchive/2006/

Microsoft's
'Google Analytics' Killer to Debut Soon?
May 17, 2006
"Microsoft's
apparently set to soon step up its efforts to capture some of the low-end
enterprise search market from nemesis Google, according to an industry
source. Microsoft's expected to announce some initiative along these
lines possibly as soon as May 17. Theories abound as to what's to be
unveiled. Perhaps Microsoft is augmenting many of its online features
with Web analytics gizmos from DeepMetrix, a 15-year Internet intelligence
firm. Microsoft said two weeks ago, after confirming the DeepMetrix
purchase, that it intended to soon incorporate DeepMetrix's Web analytics
features into AdCenter and other popular MSN features." Link:http://googlewatch.eweek.com/blogs/google_watch/archive/2006/05/17/10017.aspx

The one-stop-shop experience of Microsoft adCenter will allow advertisers
to track ad campaign performance and report results in a holistic and
measurable way. In response to advertiser feedback, Microsoft has not
only built adCenter to deliver innovative reporting capabilities, but
also will announce that it had acquired DeepMetrix Corp., a privately
held provider of Web analytics and business intelligence tools for online
marketers and publishers. Expanding upon DeepMetrix technologies such
as LiveSTATS.BIZ, Microsoft will deliver new Web analytics applications
in future releases of Microsoft adCenter. Link: http://www.threadwatch.org/node/6506
Microsoft
Snags a 'Google Analytics' of Its Own
May 4, 2006
Microsoft
says it has made a significant investment in DeepMetrix, a 15-year-old
Web traffic analysis firm. The acquisition is likely in response to
a similar one archrival Google made a few months back. Microsoft's Internet
division, MSN, plans to ultimately incorporate the DeepMetrix Web analytics
tricks into future releases of Microsoft AdCenter, Internet search,
Office Live and MSN Spaces, a Microsoft rep said. Link: http://googlewatch.eweek.com/blogs/google_watch/archive/2006/05/04/9653.aspx

Web
site metrics
February 5, 2003
I
was recently having a discussion with a Sales & Marketing Vice President
who was very frustrated by the reports he received detailing his company's
Web site activity. His goal was simple: he wanted to know what his return
on investment (ROI) was for the dollars he spent on re-designing, promoting,
and managing the site in recent months. The answer to his question was
not easy to obtain. First, his company does not sell products directly
on the Internet, so there are no "orders" from the site to
add up. Second, the reporting tool used to analyze his Web logs (more
about these below) gave him too much information in some places, and
too little in others. He wasn't sure which of the many items in the
report were the important ones. I believe that his frustration is common,
and that his challenges are two of many that cause lots of companies
to balk on obtaining a definitive answer to the Web ROI question. I
am working now with the Sales & Marketing VP described above to
develop a Web Metrics Plan for his company's site, and that meeting
prompted me to turn my attention to the topic of Web Site Metrics for
this issue of the WC Journal. Link: http://www.weidmanconsulting.com/wcj/webmetrics.asp

Statistics
Server analyzes log files in real time, eliminating bottlenecks by distributing
the load over 24 hours. Here's how it works: Statistics Server reads
log files for different sites across a TCP/IP network on short timed
intervals. It processes the Web site log files in real time and stores
the resulting data in highly robust statistics databases that are thousands
of times smaller than the original log files. Link:
