Microsoft's 'Google Analytics' Killer to Debut Soon?
May 17, 2005

Microsoft's apparently set to soon step up its efforts to capture some of the low-end enterprise search market from nemesis Google, according to an industry source. Microsoft's expected to announce some initiative along these lines possibly as soon as May 17. Theories abound as to what's to be unveiled. Perhaps Microsoft is augmenting many of its online features with Web analytics gizmos from DeepMetrix, a 15-year Internet intelligence firm. Microsoft said two weeks ago, after confirming the DeepMetrix purchase, that it intended to soon incorporate DeepMetrix's Web analytics features into AdCenter and other popular MSN features. Google Analytics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Google Analytics (GA) is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website. Its main highlight is that a webmaster can optimize his ad campaigns through GA's analysis of where the visitors came from, how long they stayed on the website, and their geographical position. Is Google Analytics Good for the Internet Marketing Industry?
February 1, 2006

First they gave us a good search engine. Then they gave us two gigabytes of free server space for email. Now they have given us a high quality web analytics system, for free. Let me just repeat that. They have given us a web analytics system FOR FREE. So what’s this system like? What are its features and how do I see it affecting the web analytics marketplace? This article explains all. Using Google Analytics on your web site - the easy way!
February 1, 2006

Google Analytics is a great tool for monitoring and tracking visitors to your web sites. Perhaps best of all, it's entirely web based - you only need a web browser to access the analysis services it provides. To enable tracking for your web sites, all you need to do is to embed a small fragment of JavaScript code in every web page. This can be a challenge when your pages are generated by different applications, or technical or procedural difficulties make it difficult to change all the content consistently. A Google Analytics vs. NetTracker comparison
January 21, 2006

I have been using Google Analytics lately. In the past I have used NetTracker extensively and evaluated other products such as WebTrends and ClickTracks I like some of the Google features, clean user interface and integration with AdWords. But I yearn for the flexibility and power of NetTracker. Link: http://www.web-watching.com/?p=24

Review: Google Analytics
December 21, 2005

Google Analytics is a relatively new web analytic service based on the extremely popular Urchin web analysis software. Unlike most other new services, Google immediately release this without testing it in beta. May be they are just too confidence about their strong software based. Is it worth the effort? The Jem Report - Google's first big failure
December 17, 2005

There was a huge rush to sign up for Google Analytics when it was first announced a few weeks ago. Online Web site traffic analysis services are not new -- search the Web for them and you'll turn up dozens, both commercial and free. But Web-savvy people have come to expect great things from Google over the past couple of years. The Google search engine is widely believed to be the best on the Web. Google Gmail was a smash hit that offered unprecedented storage space for a free email service. Froogle was a success, too. So why does Google Analytics suck? Free stats: StatCounter versus Google Analytics
December 8, 2005

If you’ve got a personal website or blog and don’t have the money to spend on an advanced statistics package, you want to find the best free stats package out there to find out where your visitors are coming from and what they are looking for. The free solution I have been using for over a year is StatCounter, mostly because it permitted free usage with an invisible “hit counter.” Another popular service called SiteMeter forces you to place a small icon on your website. While I preferred the way that SiteMeter presented visitor locations, the SiteMeter icon did not look professional and did not fit with the theme of my website.

Since Google recently made their Urchin statistics software free and changed its name to Google Analytics, I was curious to run both Analytics and StatCounter simultaneously and determine which free service I preferred. Read on to learn more about both services, such as things like “Projects”, “Goals” and “Defined Funnels”. By the end of the comparison review, you should be able to determine which service will be better for your site. Link: http://paininthetech.com/free_stats_statcounter_versus_google_analytics

Google Analytics. Weekly statistics report.
December 5, 2005

Herewith a report on a fairly-typical week of Google Analytics numbers. I was going to work this into the regular weekly statistics report, but I’m not at all sure I’m going to go on running analytics, so as a separate post this will remain available either way. The Google effect
December 5, 2005

The company's move to offer free Web-site analytics may attract businesses and drive down the prices that competitors charge. The track record is clear: Google Inc. makes a big impact whenever it enters a market or offers a new service. And Google's move last month to offer a free Web-site-analysis service will be no different. By providing entry-level Web analytics, the company may draw small businesses that haven't used analytics before into this market and ultimately expand it. Wordwide Web analytic revenue has been estimated in $377 millions USD ($108 millions software, $269 millions hosted) according to Forrester Research. Google Analytics vs AWstats with regards to home page traffic
December 1, 2005

Very recently Google made available a cookie-based web traffic analysis tool call Google Analytics. This tool appears to be built upon Urchin (recently acquired by Google) and focused towards Google’s adsense customers. It offers up a very slick graphical analysis of your web site traffic and a few interesting features with regards to looking at how people use your site. Currently it is a free service from Google. For some time we have had AWstats looking at the UW home page log files, commonly referred to as log file analysis. This differs from Google Analytics which is considered to be a website tracker as it uses a cookie to track users through your site. Google Analytics Review Part 1
December, 2005

In the Spring 2005, Google bought the web analytics giant Urchin. In November 2005, Google revealed its repacked version of Urchin: Google Analytics. The biggest news about Google’s new offering is its price. It’s free. The power of Urchin for free? It sounds ludicrous, but it is true. Many have been speculating how Google will be exploiting this for their own good. What will they do will all this data, etc.? Pundits will ponder whether Google is becoming the next evil empire second only to Microsoft. Link: http://www.recommendedwebtools.com/index.php/261/google-analytics-review-part-1

Blog Stats Software Reviews - Google Analytics
November 29, 2005

Google Analytics used to be called Urchin. When Google bought Urchin many predicted the move to offer the system under the Google brand, some even predicted it would be free to Adwords users. Quite a few pundits (and stats software vendors!) were shocked when it was announced to be free to all. Link: http://performancing.com/node/291

Google Analytics - Branding and packaging results
November 15, 2005

Google has scored a major coup with the release of Google Analytics. In the spirit of helping webmasters and search marketers move site visitors into converted site users, Google is offering its enormously useful site analytics tool, Urchin, free of charge under the re-branded name Google Analytics. The software is designed to help webmasters and marketers understand site visitors and their behaviours. Last year, it cost almost $500/mth to subscribe to. Link:

Google Analytics to alter Google Algorithm?
November 11, 2005

The big news today is that Google has made Urchin free and renamed it Google Analytics. This could be a serious blow to competitors such as WebTrends, although I doubt Google will initially offer a free package that competes on an enterprise level. Google to offer web traffic analysis services
November 14, 2005

Google has officially launched Analytics, a robust new web analysis system that provides site owners with traffic metrics and massive amounts of useful marketing data. Based on technology originally developed by a Californian company called Urchin that Google acquired in March, Analytics integrates with Google's popular AdWords system, and will vastly improve the quality and quantity of data provided to existing AdWords users. Those of you that don't use AdWords can still use Analytics by adding a simple javascript snippet to your web site. Link: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20051114-5563.html

InformationWeek | Google | Google offers Web Analytics for free
November 13, 2005

Disrupting yet another market, Google Inc. is now offering enterprise-class Web analytics for free.

In March, Google acquired San Diego-based Urchin Software Corp. and promptly lowered the monthly cost of the company's hosted Web-analytics service, Urchin On Demand, from $495 to $199. Today, the search company is re-branding Urchin under the name Google Analytics and making it available to everyone for nothing. "From an enterprise standpoint, the price is right," says Brian Comeau, a search engine optimization specialist at E-commerce network Ritz Interactive Inc., which currently relies on Urchin. Web analytics is the analysis of the data generated by visitors to Web sites -- the pages they visit, the ads they click on, and various related metrics -- for the purpose of marketing and content optimization. Web analytics heats up as Google buys Urchin; NetIQ spins out WebTrends for $94m
March 29, 2005

Two large deals in the web analytics sector were announced Monday as Google bought San Diego-based Urchin, and NetIQ sold WebTrends to its management for more than $90 million. Google did not disclose the purchase price but industry analysts estimated the deal at about $30m. Link: http://www.siliconvalleywatcher.com/mt/archives/2005/03/web_analytics_h.php

Google makes web analytics free

Google has untethered its March aquisition, Urchin web analytics, from its cumbersome need to charge for services rendered. Yes, what once cost hundreds of dollars, if not thousands, in now completely free. Urchin, now dubbed Google Analytics, is free to those with less than five million monthly page views, and also free without that limit to AdWords advertisers, giving Google at least some benefit from the service. If you go above five million monthly page views, its time to add the world's smallest AdWords campaign. Google Analytics - Google redefines web analytics inside marketing

In a few short months after acquiring Urchin, a web analytics vendor, Google launched Google Analytics today, a free web analytics solution available globally. It is uncapped for AdWords customers and free up to 5 million page views per month for all the others. Google Analytics is functionally rich, sufficiently sophisticated to meets the needs of most Web Analysts. Based on our knowledge of Urchin and a brief review of the new offering, it may not be the Rolls Royce of Web Analytics solutions but it will appeal to the masses. Also notably it offers multi-lingual capabilities that most other solutions lack. Link: http://www.hurolinan.com/book/br_detail.asp?LocatorCode=266
